Many brides shopping for wedding dresses at Versailles Atelier in South Jordan ask us if they have to get their dresses altered. Of course you’re the bride and it’s your big day, so you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do — but if you want to look as amazing as possible, you’ll want to get your wedding dress altered.
Shopping for a wedding dress in South Jordan is an exciting part of planning your wedding. The brides-to-be who come into our bridal shop love trying on different style wedding gowns and admiring themselves in the mirror. Often, the hardest part is narrowing down your choices and making a final selection. Once you make that final selection, however, you need to schedule your fittings.
Sometimes it’s obvious that a bridal dress needs alterations. The skirt or the sleeves may be too long or the waist may be too big. At other times, you may think your wedding dress fits adequately. But as experts in the wedding dress arena, trust us when we tell you that all brides benefit from having their wedding dresses altered.
One of the reasons movie stars look so fabulous on the red carpet is because their dresses have been expertly tailored to fit them (also, they’ve had lots of plastic surgery!). While you may not have the movie-star budget to have all your clothes tailored to fit you, you deserve to have the most important dress you’ll ever wear tailored to fit you!
When you go for your first fitting, the seamstress will have you wear the shoes and undergarments you will wear on your wedding day, then she will pin the dress in all the places it needs altering. This usually takes about an hour.
When you come for your second fitting, the seamstress will check to see if the alterations she made look right. She may ask you to come back for several more fittings. Your final wedding dress fitting will be a week or so before the wedding.
Besides making alterations so the dress fits perfectly, your seamstress can make alterations to your preferences. These may be for modesty, such as adding sleeves or a panel to the front or back of the wedding dress, or they might be embellishments, such as sewing on beads or appliques. Also, if your gown has a train, your seamstress will add a bustle to the back of your dress.
At our South Jordan bridal boutique, we have several seamstresses we work with in the South Jordan area who do amazing work. Or, if you prefer, you can choose your own seamstress. We just want to be sure your dress fits perfectly on your big day.
